This series of paintings emerged from a journey to Japan in the spring of 2023. Gray shadows on white temple walls, monastic chanting, Japanese calligraphy, and a pervasive sense of minimalism all helped crystallize something I’d long contemplated: a body of work built on restraint.

Working within a limited palette of neutrals—with only occasional touches of red and yellow ochre—I discovered freedom within restriction. A range of seemingly endless grays, along with creamy ivory and the deep black of india ink, became a meditative practice all its own.

Through this work, I seek to capture the deep sense of peace and inner guidance that can come when we take the time to quiet the mind and look within.

Details:

Acrylic and mixed media painting on 7/8” thick canvas, framed in a raw maple float frame. The dimensions with the frame are 21×21”. The frame is 1.5” deep.

Finished with a satin varnish for archival, UV protection. The painting is titled and signed on the back and arrives wired and ready to hang.

Paintings 16x20” and under ship free in the US and Canada. Shipping costs for larger paintings will be invoiced separately when the painting is ready to ship. International shipping is available.
