Laurie is a Seattle-based surface designer and illustrator. Growing up in Houston, Texas in the 70's she was immersed in a melting pot of cultures drawn there by the oil boom: Hispanic, Asian, Indian, Middle-Eastern, Cajun, Texan. 60's modernist themes influenced the architecture. The temperature was hot and the sun was bright. Her design sense is rooted in the color, vibrance, and modernism that surrounded her then.
She spent 5 years in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina studying textile design, weaving, and dyeing. Since relocating to Seattle, Laurie has turned her creative focus to designing surface patterns and illustrations inspired by nature, color, texture, and modern design. She lives in a 1926 Craftsman bungalow with her husband, a musician, and her little French Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix, Belle. She still gets back to Texas regularly for infusions of sun, heat, and tex-mex.
Laurie currently has pattern designs licensed to Kess In House and sells art prints through her Etsy shop. She is open to freelance and licensing opportunities for both pattern design and illustration.
