Watercolor abstracts

Wow, I can’t believe how fast the summer has flown by! As usual, it’s been a whirlwind. We only get about two short months of summer here in the Pacific Northwest, so all camping trips, visitors, barbecues and similar activities are crammed into July and August. It’s super fun, but I’m always glad when September rolls around and I have a chance to catch my breath.

I used whatever spare time I had this summer to continue playing with abstract paintings, mostly in watercolor. I’m continuing my love affair with black ink and the contrast between the heaviness of the ink and the delicate quality of watercolor. I also enjoyed playing with the positive and negative space in these little studies. I think that the negative (white) space is just as interesting as the shapes themselves.
