My textile evolution

I've loved textiles, pattern, color, and creating in general for as long as I can remember. As a child I would sit and draw for hours. When I went to school for textile design 18 years ago all I knew was that I wanted to create beautiful, tactile, functional objects. I quickly fell in love with the dyeing and surface design of the cloth even more than the weaving. I moved on to quilting, using my own hand-dyed cloth. But all the while part of me was longing to go back to the drawing I had done as a child. I started seriously pursuing pattern design last year and earlier this year, thanks to Rachael Taylor's amazing class, The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design, I began to incorporate my own sketches and drawings into my patterns. I love the immediacy of pattern design - so different from the hours of labor necessary in weaving and quilting to see a finished product. I'm looking forward to recording my evolution as a surface pattern designer here, including my inspirations, musings, and new work.  Thanks for sharing the journey with me!
